Dr Sally Hopewell

Senior Research Fellow, CONSORT

Sally’s areas of research expertise are in the design, conduct and reporting of systematic reviews and randomized trials and has published more than 80 research studies in these areas, with 40 as first author. She was awarded a D.Phil at the University of Oxford in 2005, carrying out research into the effects of unpublished data in systematic reviews. She currently splits her time working as Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Statistics in Medicine, University of Oxford, on a programme of methodological research underpinning the work of the CONSORT Group funded by the MRC Methodology Programme in the UK. The objective of CONSORT is to facilitate the critical appraisal and interpretation of randomized trials by providing guidance to authors about how to improve the reporting of their trials. She also works as a Senior Scientist at the Centre d’Epidemiologie Clinique and the French Cochrane Centre at the University Descartes Paris, leading research activities into the methodology of systematic reviews and randomized trials

Sally was also involved in leading the development of CONSORT for Abstracts and PRISMA for Abstracts guidelines. Through her work with the Cochrane Collaboration, CONSORT and PRISMA Groups she has developed a number of successful international research collaborations in the field of clinical trial reporting and systematic reviews. She is an academic editor for PLoS ONE, sits on the editorial board for the journal Systematic Reviews and is also a member of the advisory board for Current Controlled Trials.
