Gary Collins

Senior Medical Statistician


Gary graduated in 1996 with a BSc (hons) in Maths & Computing, in 2000 he obtained his PhD in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Exeter with his thesis titled "Multivariate Analysis of Flow Cytometry Data".

He has previously worked at British Gas Technology Plc, the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) in the Quality of Life Unit, Belgium and at the UK Children's Cancer Study Group (UKCCSG, now the CCLG), University of Leicester.

Gary joined CSM in October 2006 and until February 2009 was providing statistical support to scientists and researchers on Cancer Research UK clinical trials. 

He now works on a methodological programme of research where his current interests include statistical aspects of prognostic modelling; in particular, issues surrounding the validation of risk prediction models.  He is also interested in the conduct and reporting of studies developing and validating risk prediction models and is currently leading a collaboration to produce a consensus guidance on items to report when developing or validating risk prediction models.

Gary is also a statistical editor ("hanging committee") for the British Medical Journal.
